The OOA is a voluntary, not for profit, professional association in Ontario. It is committed to promoting osteopathic health care to the public, establishing and maintaining standards for safe and effective treatment, mandating accountability, ethical practice and continuing education amongst its members, and providing a list of practitioners to the public whose training and qualifications are of the highest standard.

It agrees with and meets the World Osteopathic Health Organization in the definitions of a non-physician Osteopath and the minimum education required for such a designation. The OOA aims to set and maintain the educational and professional standards of osteopathy in Canada at the highest level; to secure the stability and recognition of the profession in this country and internationally. In order to support the profession and further the osteopathic profession in Canada the OOA is taking the steps necessary to recognize and protect manual osteopathic therapists/practitioners both provincially and nationally.
